Owner Josh Adler has been following in his father’s footsteps since he was in diapers, and his guiding principle is, “How would I want someone treating my own mother?” To us, the relationship we build with our customers is the most important thing, and we aim to serve you before we even set foot in your home. 

We prepare for safety, cleanliness and maximum protection of your house with floor mats and shoe covers, for example. We use the right product for the right job, not the one that’s fastest. Our work doesn’t negate your warranty, and we’re always willing to try one more time until the desired results are achieved. You can trust us with even your most challenging pet stain and odor removal concerns.

We do what’s right for our customer, not what’s easy for us. Our trademark is 100% honesty. About Us

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Legacy Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning was created to keep the desire for quality carpet cleaning and excellent customer service alive. Owner Josh Adler is a second generation carpet cleaning professional, involved with his parents in the business since childhood. They owned and operated their own cleaning and restoration company and taught Josh business ownership skills and how important it is to uphold high standards of integrity every day.

Legacy Carpet is a 2nd generation family business

Josh built on these lessons from his parents with management skills he learned from previous, similar positions, and started Legacy to give the customers what they wanted: excellent service and expertly-cleaned carpets, upholstery and area rugs plus tile and grout cleaning.

Armed with a smile and the skills to do it right the first time, Josh utilizes essential tools and machinery to perform carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, rug cleaning, and tile and grout cleaning. He treats each and every home or place of business with the kind of care and respect you’d expect from a family-oriented company.

Josh, who has earned the designation of Master Textile Cleaner, is affiliated with these organizations:

Josh holds certifications in carpet cleaning, upholstery and fabric cleaning, stone masonry and ceramic cleaning, area rug cleaning, color repair, odor control, and leather cleaning.

He credits his now-retired parents for his deep-rooted talents, strong work ethic and the confidence to start his business.

The Carpet Legacy–Where Our Roots Began

Legacy Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning has a long history of serving our community. It’s even part of our slogan: “The Next Generation of Clean.” We pride ourselves on being a reliable company with rich family ties that go back more than 50 years! Even with all that’s happened in the world, the nation and the economy, the legacy Legacy Carpet and Upholstery is built on has endured.

In the Beginning

Our carpet legacy begins with Cary Adler (Josh’s father), who started cleaning carpets in Detroit. Cary moved to California in the ‘80s and began working for Four Star Carpet Cleaning. By 1985, he owned 50% of the business. Within 10 years, Cary became the full owner of 4-Star Carpet Cleaning and Restoration.

In 1995, Cary added restoration services: water, fire, mold remediation and construction. He loved the idea of helping people restore their homes, and he liked to say he was in the business of cleaning and restoring homes and lives.

The Next Generation

Josh’s initial experience working in the family business was far from glamorous. He swept the parking lot and helped with expense reports and receipts. It was grunt work, but he was also learning all the parts that come with owning a business.

Throughout high school, he worked after school and during the summer break to master the skills of the trade. Josh was also learning how to carry on this legacy so what his family built wouldn’t end with his parents’ retirement. Josh went from being an assistant on the trucks to being a crew chief. He worked his way up to running the carpet and upholstery division after graduating from high school.

In 2012, Cary Adler retired from the business he built and handed the reins to his able, experienced son. From that business, Legacy Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning was created. In a way, Legacy Carpet was a new company, but it came from the long-established reputation and heritage of 4-Star Cleaning and Restoration. In fact, the logo for Legacy Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning includes four stars as a nod to the roots of the company!
